Five Days of Great Canadian Reads for Older Children

I`m linking up this month with The Canadian Homeschool Blogging Team, with the attempt to write 5 posts about something Canadian. My focus is great Canadian reads for older children. Next on my list is this book:

This book does not focus on a Canadian theme per say, but it`s written by the wonderful award winning Canadian author Deborah Ellis. This and the subsequent books to follow were some of my childrens`favorites.  After learning about how the Taliban treated women and girls in the mid 90`s. Deborah Ellis knew she had to get involved. She traveled to refugee camps, and actually met up with a girl who disguised herself as a boy to be able to feed and support her family.  This fateful meeting lead to The Breadwinner. Journey to Afghanistan and witness the trials and adventures of Parvana, the heroine in the story.
