Fab Friday Find

We try to do Art every Friday. Believe it or not, it brings some sanity back to my life (ahem). Personally, I'm not an artist, but I do enjoy teaching my kids art appreciation, and I will try some of the projects they are doing.  Since I started my homeschooling journey twelve years ago, I have used many art resources. That is the beauty of the Internet and YouTube. You can teach your children to be artists alongside some brilliant artists; and as long as you don't mind a bit of a mess they can create masterpieces!

We've really taken a liking to the lessons that Tricia Hodges at Hodgepodge has to offer. Using chalk pastels and sometimes acrylic paints, my girls have created some beautiful artwork! The lessons are easy to follow, whether it be right on her website or on her YouTube channel.  Today we worked on some spring azaleas using chalk pastels. In Augusta, Georgia their azaleas are blooming...uhmmm...not  here...we really don' have anything blooming yet on the prairies. Nevertheless, we took it one step more, and tried to recreate a spring prairie scene...similar to something you might see out our way... in about a month or so.  This is what the girls created first with the azalea scene and next with the prairie scene.

Here are a few more pictures we have created using Tricia's website. No matter what, I love how her and her mother refer to everyone as an artist. If you are looking for some art lessons make sure you check out her site. This is definitely one of my Fab Finds!

(Disclosure: Even-though I recently became an affiliate for Hodgepodge, this post  reflects my long standing personal opinions, and I sincerely wanted to share  this gem with other homeschoolers)
