Super Heroes in the Making

Nah...just kidding...but I thought the title might catch you eye ;)

In all my years of homeschooling, I never ventured to put any of my children into any martial arts of any sorts. Don't ask me why...I really don't know. Maybe they didn't express any interest...maybe I didn't express any interest.

Last September, both Christian and Emilie wanted to try Tae kwon do.  I balked at the idea because I didn't want to travel back to the city for this. By chance, one of the dads we know out here in Millarville runs a small club at the local community hall. Since the fall, both Emilie and Christian have developed their skill, and are quite good. Two Saturdays ago, they were tested along with other kids and adults for their next level belt. I am happy to announce that they graduated from white belt to yellow belt! In June, they will be tested again and hopefully graduate to yellow striped green belt.

I'm not sure how far they will want to pursue this activity, but for now, its giving them confidence, building their strength, and concentration ( believe it or not, they have a "routine" to memorize...its quite mesmerizing to watch them) Will they ever use this? I'm not sure. But its nice to know that they have this set of skills and are setting goals for themselves. What I also like about this class is what its' teaching these two:  " five tenants of Tae Kwon-Do are comprised of: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self-control and Indomitable Spirit"
And really...isn't that what makes a super hero? ;)
