This Is How We Role...Now

If you told me even 10 years ago that I`d be out on some ranch, sometime in my life helping to vaccinate and brand calves...I`d think you were completely crazy!

Fast forward 2014. We live on an acreage, and we just cant get enough of rural life. The city seems like a distant memory. This past weekend we were blessed and honored to be invited to the whole branding experience at the UXL Ranch, situated at the edge of beautiful Kananaskis country.

This city girl, transplant country girl, gave her children an experience they will never forget! The children were all a little stunned and overwhelmed at first, but after a few minutes of inhaling (literally) their whole environment, they were right in there. Both boys were bulldogging calves. David, was bulldogging calves, and by the end, even both my girls were holding down the smaller calves for branding. Now don`t think that I just sat back and took pictures. I didn't wrestle any calves. I`d be living at the chiropractors if I did. However, I did help with vaccinations. By the end of the day, I think I vaccinated over 250 calves!

By the end of the day we were high on adrenaline, and just pure happiness! Really!  The whole community experience of neighbors helping neighbors was completely overwhelming. You just don`t get it in a big city anymore! It was a great reminder of why we moved out to the country.  This was life learning for my children as well... something that I am giddy that I could be apart of with them.

We might only have 4.5 acres ourselves, and no...we can`t have any cattle...maybe one cow...or a few chickens in the future...but for now, we decided that we will definitely help out this wonderful ranching family again next year, and for hopefully many years to come. This is what we will always remember as a family!
