Just Humming Along

We are nearly done January, and as much as I thought we would have a quiet start to the New Year, we've started with a bang! Life is manifesting itself into so many great possibilities and wonderful opportunities.

Let's begin with the boys,  as they are in the thick of semester finals for grade 10 and diploma exams for grade 12. You know what that means- late nights and an anxious household as the boys try to make it to the end of this semester's finish line.

Plugged in and studying

For a great New Year opener,  Devin received his letter from Mount Royal College University. He received early acceptance into the Kinesiology program. Once all marks are finalized, he will be able to declare his major. His goal? Athletic Therapist. Sigh...twelve years has flown by way to fast.

Christian also started the New Year off with some great news. We received a note from our homeschooling school board, that Christian was 1 of 15 top Grade 10-ers academically. He was invited to apply for the dual  credit business entrepreneurship program that Centre for Learning and  Bow Valley College are piloting this year. At first we balked at the idea. It would just mean one more "thing" to do. Nevertheless, after careful consideration , we thought that this would be a great opportunity. This means, not only will he get credits towards his high school diploma, when he is done the program in grade 12, he will also receive a certificate in business. He will be able to use it towards his university program of choice. Life will certainly get busier for him, and I think that between the two of us, we will need to sit down and do a bit of academic and strategic planning.

This coming weekend, Emilie and Christian will be tested in their levels of Tai Kwan Do. They are both just beginners, so the belt they would receive is yellow. Never in a million years did I think any of my children would do any marital arts. Its pretty neat to watch them. They are so focused and dedicated. I can't wait to take pictures and post them at a later date.

As for news with the girls, we've begun our "New Year" of school. I'm not sure about them, but Fridays are my favorite day with them. I've incorporated, Art, Nature Studies, Poetry and some Novel Studies into our day. It's all my favorite stuff! I'm finding with the girls, that with their core school work, they work independently, and would rather be left alone with just a few instructions, for the most part. I'm hoping that our Fridays will be a day we can reconnect and spend more of a leisurely time enjoying and encouraging each others creative energy.

On a final note, I'd like to share with you some beautiful sunrises  we've been having this month. So as other people complain about the January blues, this is how I start by busy day. There's really no time to be blue...that's for sure!  We are just humming along!
