Let me back track a bit to let you know how the last part of summer went for us. I think my last post left all you readers with anticipation of the upcoming country fair and our camping trip to the Shuswap.
The fair was a success and by far exceeded our expectations! Devin entered into four baking categories. He came away with first place in bread baking, second place in banana bread, and...wait for it...first in his chocolate cake category which also got him an Award of Excellence and Best in his Age Section. He was also presented with a small award at the award ceremony.
Christian entered into four entries and picked up two first place ribbons; one in a selfie at a Millarville event, and one in the pet category.
Sophie entered in a baking category and received third place for her favorite cookie; Chocolate Rolo cookie.
Emilie also entered in some baking categories. She received a third place ribbon for her decorated cookie, third place for her blueberry muffins, and second place for her granola bars.
Let's not forget Bailey! The kids entered him in a wiener bobbing contest. He won first in his category too!
As we were basking in the after glow of the kids' success, we were also busy packing for our next day, week long trip to Scotch Creek with family.
What a great week we had! The weather was perfect, and we had some great adventures.
My brother in law, brought his Sea-Doo and the kids had a blast with the cousins zipping around the lake.
The kids also had a chance to go fishing. What a perfect serene evening that was. Unfortunately no one caught anything!
One of the main highlights of this trip was our encounter with a bear. Winnie the Pooh wandered in to the camp ground and decided to visit a few sites. Luckily for us, he never came by our sites, but we did see him twice. The first time two of my sister in laws and myself snapped a few pics while he was up in a tree. The next time was when a group of us were headed out for ice cream, and the bear bolted out of the bushes about 100 meters in front of us. Thankfully the conservation officers kept a close eye on this not so little critter and he managed to waddle off some time later on in the night.
And now that brings us up to date, and the beginning of another school year. The long weekend was a whirlwind of work and activities for the kids. Last minute visits from friends and family; and the beginning of canning season with my mom kept us hopping.
I think I'm going to relish the cozy, somewhat laid back days of September. It's a time where I like to organize and get ready for the busy winter season of full on school and extra curricular activities.
Thanks for the memories Summer 2014 it was a great time. Can't wait to see you again next year! Bring it on Autumn 2014! I'm ready for you!
