Whirl Wind Weekend

Hello Sports fans! Well this is it! My last post of the year about hockey. My children are currently wandering the house not knowing what to do now that we are done, but I'm sorta doing a happy dance. Cue the music for mom ;)  Just kidding...kinda ;)

This past weekend was the year end hockey tournament for the Foothills Rec Hockey League. All teams in this league were guests of the Canmore team. Games took place in Canmore and in Banff. You really could not ask for a more picturesque setting to end the hockey year.

Every team was guaranteed three games. There were no standings like most tournaments; just a lot of good hockey. So...lets do the math. Four kids...3 different age groups. (Christian and Devin are both on the same team and Sophie did not play, but went to all her games to cheer her team) So...that's 9 games plus the Sportsmanship game...equals 10 games in 2 1/2 days. My head was spinning Sunday afternoon when we left the Banff arena and started home.

Yes, it was a busy weekend and yes we all slept in Monday morning to recoup and regroup for the week; but I wouldn't have changed a thing. We watched our crew have fun. We watched them forge friendships off ice with kids from our community. We connected with like minded parents from our area, and forged our own friendships that will go beyond the hockey rink.

Highlights that I will treasure include both the boys winning the "Heart and Hustle" medals for individual games they participated in, Emilie scoring 2 goals in 3 games, Sophie being helped off the ice by one of her team mates after the last medal ceremony, watching my boys ref, watching both boys play their hearts out, and watching Devin play out (not goalie)  in the Sportsmanship game Saturday night.

The pictures just don't do justice for all the effort the organizers, coaches, players and parents put in to make this past weekend successful and most of all...FUN. And really, isn't that what family/kids sports should really be about? Fun and Sportsmanship?

The Midget Wildcats won the Sportsmanship Award for this year!
