Trying Our Hand At This

With all the wild flowers out here at the Ranche, I invested in a microwaveable flower press from Lee Valley Hardware and this book: Alberta Wayside Flowers ( click on title)   Today, we tried it out. It worked pretty good! There is a trick though, that we didn't know. Sophie picked the flowers in the afternoon, apparently you need to do it mid morning, due to freshness, etc. Nevertheless, I think we did a good job on the first try. As of July 3rd, these are the flowers we have around here:
American vetch
Canada Anemone
Buck bean
Heart leaved Alexanders
Common Yarrow ( in white)
Prickly Rose ( The Alberta Rose)
Tag Blue Bells ( just the last of them)
Wood Lilies
I mounted the flowers on cards, after we microwaved them. Right now, they are tucked away in sheet protectors. I plan to just keep note at different times of the summer of the different flowers we have...something to do with the kids.
