The Beginning of Basketball

It might not be March Madness...yet,  but junior high basketball, and elementary basketball season is upon us.
We started off the season today, by playing in the Grade 9 tournament in Okotoks.
First, I'm going to give myself a pat on the shoulder, for getting Devin to Okotoks, after the winter wallop we had last night and this morning "Yay mom"...OK...I've taken my bow :)

Back to the tournament...Centre for Learning (CFL Flight) lost every game, but having said that...our boys played AWSOME!!!!!  Picture it. Seven boys, 5 of the 7 boys in grade 7 and 8,  no taller than myself, homeschoolers who only meet 2X per week for 1 1/2 hours of practice. They took on 3 schools ( John Paul II Collegiate from Okotoks, Notre Dame from High River, and St. Anthony's from Drumheller), whose grade 9 boys, are seriously no shorter than 6 feet ( I'm convinced they grow em bigger out in rural areas).

Two of the three games were back to back, so there was no time for rest, nor did our boys have an extra line. It was all them. The seven of them meshed, and came together as one. Our boys hustled, and had game. You couldn't have written a better script for our boys. What was even better, was that these three other teams, were cheering on our boys, when they went up against whoever they were playing. It was truly and amazing day of sportsmanship.

Today's tournament, was just a warm up for the grade 7/8 tournament next week in Strathmore. Both Devin and Christian will be playing in that one. ( Even though, Christian is still in grade 6, they asked grade 6er's to come out for Junior high...great practice for Christian once elementary practises start tomorrow ).

Here are the scores, and after the story I just told you, my readers, really, the scores are truly irrelevant.
Stay tuned for next week's tournament and the rest of our basketball season. GO FLIGHT!
