The Bookworms' Shelf Keeps on Growing

I've finally have time to update our booklist.

For November book club at Monkeyshines, Sophie is reading "The Whipping Boy" by Sid Fleishman. Christian is reading "The Last Invisible Boy" by Evan  Kuhlman and Devin is reading "If I Stay" by Gayle Forman. Neither of them would be choices I'd look at, but they all strike up interesting conversations about choices, morals and values with the kids.

For novel studies, the boys will begin "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie. I'm looking forward to this, because it was one of my favorites when I was in Junior High. Vertigo Theatre will be presenting the play sometime in the Spring, so I'm thinking we'll have to go. We finished reading Stephen Leacock's Literary Lapses. It took awhile for the boys to warm up to the short stories. They weren't as amused as I was, but once they understood the satire, the enjoyed the humor.
Sophie is enjoying "Caddie Woodlawn" by Carol Ryerie Brink.  We're doing different little writing projects, to keep her interest in the book. Sophie enjoys stories from the pioneer era, and of the 1930/40's. I'm trying to get my hands on some Betsy-Tacy Books by Maud Hart Lovelace. I think she'll enjoy those. She's already read the Little House series by Laura Ingalls Wilder, and thoroughly enjoyed those ones as well.
Emilie is coming along with her reading list. She's enjoying the crazy adventures of Emily, in Emily's Runaway Imagination by Beverly Cleary. You really can't go wrong with any book by Beverly Cleary. We might put together a lap book for this story.

As if we don't have enough books in our crammed bookshelves, the kids finally had a chance to spend  the rest of their Chapters gift cards from previous birthdays, and Christmas. Emilie chose the Ivy & Bean series, Sophie bought Three Cups of  Tea, and For Girls Only. Christian bought On the Blue Comet, and Canadian Mysteries Vol. 1. The verdict is still out on their purchases, but they all look good. I'm thinking I should get the adult version of Three Cups of Tea. The young reader's edition which Sophie bought looks good.
You can check out the titles on my Bookworms Bookshelf Link. See if there's anything of interest for you :)
