Diary of an Off Islander Part 3

We're home now, and I think we're all in denial. PEI was wonderful. I know I'm in withdrawl...or maybe it's jet lag ;)

Friday morning, we woke up to rainy weather, but that didn't stop us from piling into our jeep, and wandering the country sides. We ended up in New Glasgow, at a place called the Toy Factory. Dave and I were thinking just another toy shop to spend money, however, this one was a bit different. The owners made wooden toys; from marionettes, to toy cars, yo-yo's and games.  As we were wandering through the store, the wife, asked if the kids would like to "learn" how to put wheels on the wooden cars. They jumped at the chance, and we ended up with 4 little wooden cars to bring home. We must have looked so eager, because she (jokingly) said for us to come back the next day, and the kids could help her with her pickling.
Next, we drove to Stanley Beach, and checked out a little marine aquarium with local fish and sea animals. We learnt all about Irish moss, and clam and mussel farming.
We ended our day, by taking in the Shellfish Festival in Charlottetown. We ate tons of mussels, clams, had baked potato with lobster bisque and crab quesadillas. The kids were all excited, because they were actually IN a beer garden just like the ones during Stampede, eating shellfish and listening to East Coast bands.

Saturday, we did last minute pictures on the beach close to the cottages, took a tour of Dalvay by the Sea ( this was the inn for the series Road to Avonlea) and closed our book on a wonderful family vacation.

Dave and I had no expectations for this trip. We knew, we wanted to immerse ourselves and the kids in everything PEI. We made no definite plans, and serendipity played a distinct role in everything we did, everything we learnt, everything we saw, and everyone we met .  We definitely took the path less traveled many times, and we all agreed that, that was the fun of the whole trip.
