Well, it's Thursday night, and I'm a little behind on our holiday blog. I tried posting 2 days ago, but the server crashed...I was not happy...but enough said..I did figure out how to retrieve the post...YAAAAYYY...just ignore the date posted.
Well...after our exciting adventures of Monday, we had a very full day for Tuesday. We headed into Charlottetown for the day. We were lucky and very fortunate, to have a wonderful and exceptional personal tour given, by Uncle Wendal and Aunt Barbara. The kids also had the help of a little friend named Eckhart the mouse. As we strolled through the streets, history came alive for all of us. The kids learned first hand about Confederation with the vivid stories and descriptions by Uncle Wendal. Eckhart, was a little statue the kids needed to find to get to the next historical, or cultural highlight. Dave and I re-learned and even learned new stuff about our country's history. Senior High Social finally made sense to both of us! As our tour ended, we ended up at a soap shop, and they graciously explained to us, how they made natural, soap.
Wednesday, we headed to the Confederation Bridge. What would a trip to PEI be without crossing the bridge to New Brunswick and back again? We stopped at Cape Jourimain N.B. for some beach combing, and a lovely, but quick picnic lunch under an abandoned light house. Rain followed us back over the bridge, but we stopped in Miscouche to visit the Acadian Museum. Our trek continued to the Bottle Houses near Cap-Egmont. The history behind these houses are interesting. That night we went to another ceilidh in Brackely Beach to listen to a Celtic fiddler. She definitely had the community hall rockin'.
As for today...another full and wonderful day. We headed to the East Shore of the island for a full day "field trip" to a potato farm owned and operated by the Keenan family. Alvin and Raymond Keenan graciously gave us a tour of their farm operations in Souris. We learned about potato plants, potato harvest, potato packaging, potato distribution...everything about potatoes. They also took time from their busy schedules, to show us some wonderful sights on the East shore.
I'm posting some links to some of our adventures. Take a look!
Two days left, and our serendipitous adventures continue...

I just had to visit your blog today as my day started with a game of hide and seek for my car keys and is ending with a visit from the locksmith.
ReplyDeleteIt is so wonderful to read about all your unschooling adventures but I am afraid you are missing so much school time. Whatever are you going to do to get the kids caught up to their peers? ; ) Of course I am kidding. What a wonderful "Field trip"! Enjoy your family time and bring me back some potato chips. We can hardly wait for the Lego version!!!
