Well I might be a little late to the party, but I just want to check in and talk about what is on our summer bucket list. I will admit though, this year it is extremely hard to nail down a list that we can all do, and the list is somewhat shorter than in previous years. Three out of four kids have jobs this summer, and my husband is finding it hard to take time off work as well. So we are flying by the seat of our pants you could say, and entering a new season of how to have some summer fun with older kids.
Even-though it is nearing the end of July, here is a list of what I'm hoping we can still do this summer if the stars and schedules align. ( Just a note too...camping is not on the list.. we go every year...so that`s not really a part of our bucket list)
1. Day trips to close by locations. ( This one takes a bit of planning, but so far we've managed to get up to Lake Louise and hike, and I'm really hoping to head to Head Smashed in Buffalo Jump on the long weekend. I wouldn't mind heading up to Sylvan Lake as well to the water slides. This is the last season that the water slides will be open. I'd like my children to experience a little bit of what I enjoyed in the summer time growing up.
2. Hikes. I guess this is along the same theme as day trips, but because we live close to some great hiking trails, this one doesn't' take as much planning and it can be an afternoon event. Some of the best hiking trails are 1/2 hours away from our front doorstep.
3. Taking in local festivals. This is one thing I have never done with the kids because they have been too little. However, I`m thinking that this one would be fun now that the kids are older.
4. U-pick and local markets. Again, this is something I never tried when the kids were younger...mostly for my sanity. I think now they would have the patience to take in some other farmer`s markets (Not just the Millarville one) and try our hand at picking berries. Currents and Saskatoon berries are nearly ready, so I think we will try for that.
5. Milky Way Nights at the Local Observatory. This is one I would like to do with all the kids. Christian did get to go to the July sessions last week with a friend. However, I`d like more of us to attend. What could be better than spending a really late night out in the country looking at the stars.
What does your list look like. If you have teens do you still get the chance to spend some time checking off bucket list items. Like I said, this is a short list, but I hope I can get a good bang for my buck with what is on this list for what`s left of this summer.
