10 Activities for Canada Day...Alberta Style

I'm joining up with Lisa Marie at The Canadian Homesschooler and the Canadian Homeschool Blogging Team this month. We are talking about what fabulous things there are to do for Canada Day.

I have to admit, when it comes to doing "fun" things for Canada Day, we are not the poster family for this holiday. Don't get me wrong, we do enjoy July 1, but we would rather stay at home, avoid the crowds, have a BBQ with friends or family and toast our great country.

Here's a list of  ten things to do if  you're out and about in the Calgary area this July 1:

1.  Canada Day...Calgary Style.  Head downtown to Eau Clare Market for a big all day celebration. Markets, entertainment, and tons of activities to keep you hopping all day! Walk a few blocks to Stephan Avenue Mall, and enjoy more vendors, and entertainment all day. While you're downtown, head to Chinatown and enjoy the Canada day celebration with even entertainment and more vendors. There's tons to do in downtown Calgary!

2. Fort Calgary...Celebrate Canada Day with free family activities, entertainment and petting zoo.

3. Canada Day at Calaway Park...Enjoy the day at the amusement park. Take in the stage shows and all the rides.

4.  Heritage Park...Celebrate "Dominion Day" and stroll the streets of this fantastic historical park. The day starts with a pancake breakfast, parade, entertainment and mini chuck wagon races.

5. Fireworks on Centre Street Bridge...I'm sure I had you at fireworks. 'Nuff said.

6. Spruce Meadows...Enjoy some wonderful horsemanship and take in the North American. Enjoy some entertainment, kids activities, pony rides and shopping.

7. Okotoks Dawgs baseball game...This is more our style, and we have done this in the past. Take in a baseball game with the local boys of summer. Stay until the end, and celebrate Canada Day with fireworks. Game time is 7:05

8. Multicultural Celebration in Okotoks...Celebrate Canada Day with multicultural festivities. Enjoy family activities, dancing, entertainment, bouncy castles, face painting, arts and crafts.

9. Black Diamond Music Festival and Carnival...Spend the afternoon listening to great music, and have fun with the family activities. End your day by watching some spectacular fireworks!

10.  110th Running of the Millarville Races...This personally is my favorite. Spend the day at the Millarville racetrack. Watch the horse races and musical rides. Shop at the farmer's market, and enjoy all the free kid's activities for the afternoon. This will be our fourth year at this venue. It's a great afternoon, and not even ten minutes down the road from us.

Whatever you do this Canada Day, have fun! Enjoy your time with family and friends.

HAPPY CANADA DAY!!!
