We are knee deep in school and in snow. September 9th and we have snow! Apparently Calgary and area has not had this much snow this early since 1921!!!
Pretty don't you think? Maybe if it was November!!!
Anyhow...we are also knee deep in school. I realized I haven't done a post about what will be happening this year with our homeschooling journey. Maybe Snowman building 101, snowshoeing, and ice fishing...just kidding! This year, I have two in senior high. Devin is in Grade 12 and Christian is in Grade 10. Devin's schedule for his online classes this semester with Saint Paul's Academy consist of Chemistry 30, Social 30, Advanced Food Studies 30, Biology 20 and Phys Ed. 30. Next semester his schedule will consist of Math 31 ( Calculus), Biology 30, English 30 and Religious Studies 30. Phys Ed is full year and self paced. Everything else is teacher paced, because it's a diploma exam year. His extra curricular activities will include, hockey and reffing later on in the late fall. Currently he's enrolled in some teen yoga classes at the local hall, to strengthen his back from an injury he sustained early in the spring.

| He didn't realize I snapped this until after...heehee so sneaky ;) |
Christian is also doing online classes this year with Saint Paul's Academy. This semester consists of Math 10-1 teacher paced, Science 10, Social 10, Creative Writing, Phys. Ed 10, and Special Projects 10; which are all self paced. Next semester consists of Math 20, English 10 and Religious Studies 10. The Special Projects class and Creative Writing class and Phys. Ed. class will be a part of the second semester. Extra curricular activities for Christian will include hockey, reffing, piano lessons, and Tai Kwan Do. Christian will be extremely busy and I hope that he hasn't bitten off more than he can chew.

Sophie and Emilie are in Grade 8 and Grade 6. I am still homeschooling them traditionally. I think we are going to have fun...not that the boys won't have fun... ;) Its' just that it'll be fun to explore different rabbit holes, and see where this year takes us.
I'm especially excited with the books we've chosen for novel studies this year for both girls:
 |
| Emilie's novel studies |
 |
| Sophie's novel studies |
These selections by no means will be the only books they will read! There's no rhyme or reason either to these selections. We just thought they looked interesting and we could engage in some interesting conversations and projects.

| Emilie's Subjects |
This year I've gone back to some old favorites for curriculum. I've decided to use Seton and Memoria Press for the bulk of our studies. This is by no means "it". These are just a platform to some interesting topics the girls would like to explore. Both want to learn about ancient civilizations, so we will take that as far as we can. This year for science we are exploring physics for Sophie and both chemistry and physics for Emilie. This year I'm hoping for more of a hands on approach to science...so a lot more experiments...more then last year. Language Arts will include tons of reading, tons of discussion and just our basic grammar to balance out the fun stuff ;) I've also decided to do a more serious art program with the girls. I'm excited about this too! A few months ago Jessica at
Shower of Roses wrote about her children's art curriculum. I did my research and thought it was fabulous. The girls will be doing Track A-Level 3 for
Meet the Masters. They will will look at and imitate with their own art, artists including Van Gough, Cassatt, Mondrian, Picasso and Monet.
Sophie's extra curricular activities will include yoga (to strengthen her leg), hockey, the CFL volleyball team, piano, and a junior high Socratic Core class that some wonderful moms' have organized in Okotoks. Emilie's extra curricular activities will include Tae Kwan Do with Christian, hockey, piano, and elementary volleyball.
Well....I don't know about you...but my brain is sore from trying to remember what the crew will be doing this coming year. Is any of this written in stone? Devin's is, if he wants to graduate; but the other three still have some breathing room...so yes schedules and topics and interests might change...but hey...its homeschooling...its about the journey!
