When they were planning and digging the foundation, 3 HUGE spruces were knocked down to make way for what is now the kitchen. Last summer, Dave started to chop up as much of the "small stuff" as possible, with the chain saw, but it just seemed as if the pile was not getting any smaller. We then thought, that we'd make mulch out of the left over; but you do not want to guess the cost of rental for a wood chipper!
Solution: Just burn it...burn it all!
We had our first big bonfire at the beginning of March.
Assessing the pile again this month, we noticed we had so much more to burn. We had cleared and cut down some deadwood this summer/fall, and that still needed to be burned. We added all that deadwood to the pile that wasn't completely burnt. Solution: Burn #2. Yesterday was a perfect day to have another big bonfire.
| Marshmallows anyone? |
With the help of the boys, Dave lit the pile again. Is it gone? Not yet. we're thinking we might have to call in for our 3rd burn permit sometime soon. What I'm looking forward to is the big pile of ash that Dave will dump into the vegetable garden this spring...sorry...is already spring....what I meant to say...if it ever warms up.
