Just When You Thought It Was Over...

...We pulled out the hockey gear. Yes, the smelly, skunk-like, malodorous hockey gear that has been sitting in the garage festering away. I'm not going to deny that the last three weeks have been a blissful haven for at least me, without hockey. I think the stench in the truck was a grim reminder that I had better air our the gear sooner rather than later.

Nevertheless, our school year would not be complete if we did not participate in the annual teacher/student hockey game. This year, the highlight was that Sophie joined her brothers in this annual event. This is something she's been itching...no dying to do since Devin played his first game 4 years ago. She played with the teachers, as the turnout for the teacher's side was poor. Apparently, rumor had it that 3 teachers had hung up their skates for good, while another one hurt his back. So...that had left 4 teachers playing hockey. One was the goalie. Nonetheless, the teacher's team did hold their own, and even owned the students for the first 2 periods. However, the students team, which was made up of only 8 kids ( enough for 1 1/2 line) squeaked by and won 12-10.

It was a great game again, as it has been for the last 4 years. This is one of my favorite CFL events to attend and watch. The camaraderie between the students and the teachers is amazing. We are so lucky to be a part of such a great school board. The kids played hard, and as I write and post this, its pretty quiet around the house right now. My crew is exhausted after their last hurrah for hockey this year. NOW, we can finally hang up the skates and put away the sticks until next season.
