The one thing which Dave and I try to do, is balance our crews' lives between sports, music and academics. Some days it can be quite the juggling act...somewhere in there, we all need some down time.
The one thing I do like though, is that with their music, we've explored more options, than just "practicing".
This past Sunday, the boys participated in a low key piano recital sponsored by a group of local piano teachers. It was basically a show and tell for these piano teachers, of their higher grade students. The talent was phenomenal, and Devin and Christian did not disappoint either ;)
Meanwhile, Sophie is part of what we like to call a low key "guitar club". Another family of girls, and Sophie get together for a casual "jam" session once a month. They play current, popular songs, that they decide on through emails. Its fun to watch and listen to these girls. I also like it, that Sophie gets a chance to perform with others...not just sit a strum in her room...alone. She has a great gift, and I'm glad she's decided to share her talents with others. Another perk to homeschooling? I like the fact, that Sophie is interacting with older girls, with the same interests. Age is not an issue in this group. Where else would you see a grade 10-er and grade 8-ers hanging out with someone who is still in elementary?
