Teaching With Dear Canada

Some years for homeschooling, I scare myself, with daunting projects and unit studies that I want to undertake. They seem HUGE, and I truly doubt that I can undertake such tasks. This year is going to be one of those years...I think...but I truly hope it won't be.

This year for the girls' Social Studies lessons, they will be learning World, and Canadian history while reading most of the Dear Canada Diary series. Along with reading, they will be note booking the different eras and setting up a time line which spans from the mid 1600's up until the 1950's. Seems like a lot of work? Yup!
The fun part though...at least for me, is the note booking. I LOVE note booking and lap booking; and the girls enjoy that type of hands on learning as well. When the boys were younger we did many unit studies with lap book and note booking, so it is something that I am going to do more of for the girls.
Our first history diary?  Alone in and Untamed Land It is a "Filles du Roi Diary set in New France 1666.
So far, so good, and the girls seem to be enjoying their Social lessons.

Speaking of note booking, I've added a link on the right hand side of my blog, if  you would like to link to the website Note booking Pages. This is a great site which I have used throughout our ten years of homeschooling. Check it out; there are some great downloadable and printables, to use for many of your subjects.
