This year, I am trying a new program with the two girls: Little Women Hospitality ( this program is available through Blue Mantle in Ontario)
It combines, literature, religion/virtues, and home economics
Every month, the girls learn a new virtue, and a new life skill. They receive a prayer card at the beginning of the month, and a charm at the end of the month for completing their monthly task. September's theme was "The Theme of Cooking". They learnt, that cooking can be a primary way to show hospitality to others, and be a corporal work of mercy. Under some guidance, I let them loose in the kitchen as well.
They made a batch of Russian Tea Surprise cookies. Verdict? They were delish. They each received a cookie jar charm for a job well done. October's theme? The skill of dusting and cleaning a room properly. I get to devise a game, where I can hide pennies or nickles in the room they need to tidy. If they dust and tidy well, they should be able to find all the hidden surprises. I'm looking forward to this one.
