Today, summer arrived officially at 5:09 pm. You'd never know it with the rains and cool temperatures we've had.
To celebrate summer, the kids an I took advantage of the brief window of opportunity, of somewhat good weather we had this morning. We went for a walk up the road. There were a few tense moments though , and I had a brief thought about how easy it was when these four were still in a stroller...but I digress.
As for our walk, everything is so lush and green. The road side is blooming with wild flowers ( blue bells, wild roses, and numerous other species that we'll eventually look up in our wildflower book). We were amazed at the birds as well. We spotted a blue heron down by Pothole Creek, an owl flew over us into a grove of spruce, and a hawk circled high above us, down in the hollow; not to mention the bluebirds and swallows flitting about. The kids an I also found a HUGE bees or wasp nest...or a swallows nest...not too sure...in the culvert down by Pothole Creek.
I definitely have a new perspective on life out here. Its an amazing feeling to be able slow down, breathe, and literally smell the flowers. Here are a few pictures I took with my phone while on the walk. Click on the collage to enlarge the pictures. Enjoy and Happy First Day of Summer!
