Nature Study for the Birds

Living out here, gives us an opportunity to really appreciate and enjoy our surroundings. Lately, we have taken to bird watching. Nothing hard core, but enough to be in awe of  the different birds we have out here. Now...I'm not talking magpies, crows or robins ( we do have our share out here of those too) but I'm talking about the birds that you don't see in the city everyday. These ones hang out in our grove of trees and in the willows where the creek is.
I thought I'd compile a list of birds which we have seen so far out here.  I'm sure there are many more, and I hope to post a bigger list as the spring and summer season goes by.

Yellow bellied flycatcher
Willow flycatcher
Wilson's Snipe
Blue Jay
Barn swallow
Mountain Bluebird
Red wing blackbird
Yellow headed blackbird

Great Horned Owl
Downy woodpeckers

If you want to learn more abou the birds in you area, click on over here: Birds Calgary  I actually emailed them, because we couldn't figure out a certain bird sound, and they were more than helpful. They even pointed the way to this website  All About Birds Both sites have a wealth of information if anyone is interested in fidning out more about birds in the area.
