Wordfest Field Trip

This week, we managed to take in 2 mornings of Wordfest with the kids and some friends.
Wordfest/Bookrapport, hosts authors and illustrators for 5 days, in Calgary and Banff. It's a great way, to meet your favorite author, listen to their stories, and for the authors and illustrators to showcase their talents, not just for children, but for adults as well. There is always a huge variety, and genre of writers: something for everyone!

Wednesday morning, we had the opportunity to sit in on 2 Canadian authors: Scott Chandler, a graphix novelist, and Bryan Perro, ad Sci-Fi, fantasy writer. The kids enjoyed their presentations very much, and I think they walked away with some inspirations for their own writing.
Friday was a real treat, while Devin, Christian and Sophie listened to Scott Chandler again, and also Arthur Slade, Emilie had the pleasure to meet the writer and the illustrator of the Franklin series! Did you know, that Franklin : Afraid of the Dark, is celebrating it's 25 year anniversary of being published?
This series, has been a perennial favorite in our house since Devin was little, and it's neat to see, now, my youngest being able to meet the author. While the author read from the book, I think in my mind, I read along with her! it was like hearing one of your old favorite songs, and just knowing the words!
When I told Dave later,  who we saw, he burst out into the theme song from the TV show. That's how much is has been apart of our lives!  It's funny how that happens!

It only runs until tomorrow, but if you have a chance next year, bookmark the date. It is definitely well worth the trip!
