Friday Fall Follies

Yesterday, we heralded the end of our warm days, by participating in canoing lessons at the Calgary Canoe Club. The boys (OK...mom) missed signing up last year with CFL, but this year mom was on the ball!  I figured, that we tried our hand at canoing this summer, when we were at the Great Canadian Barn Dance, so this would be great for the boys, to learn more about this activity.
Luck had it, that instead of canoing, the instructor gave them the option of kayaking. Thank goodness, it was a calm day on the reservoir, with no wind, because I don't think my guys, nor the  ten other kids would have been so eager.

Kayaking looks sooooo easy, but....it's not! I'd pick canoing any day, over kayaking. Nevertheless,  I'm glad my boys had the chance to try kayaking.  There's a special way to hold your 2 ended paddle, so you won't just paddle in a circle, there's a special way to get into the kayak, there's a safe way to enter from dry land into water, there's a way to bail yourself out,  if the kayak tips and you're in the water.  There's even a special way to get out of your kayak when you're at the dock so you don't fall into the water! Who knew?

The boys had a blast! But I had two tired and wet young men at the end. Thank goodness they reminded us to bring an extra set of clothes!  This was lesson number one out of two.
Next Friday, is their 2nd lesson. Here's hoping that winter doesn't set in as October begins :)
Here's a few pictures from yesterday. Enjoy!
