Summer Bucket List

Looking out the window today, there is a promise of summer. The morning looks beautiful, but we all know, that by the time the kids get organized, and are finished their inside activities, the afternoon will give way to rain and thunder showers. There's not too much incentive to do anything "summer-y".
Nevertheless, the troops get restless, and mom needs to figure out something, so there isn't a hint of mutiny, for the summer months.

The kids and I have come up with what is called "The Summer Bucket List". What is that? I'm sure you're all just dying to know :) It's just a HUGE list of local places to explore, and inexpensive activities we can do, before the summer ends. The objective of this list, is not to constantly occupy the kids, but just shake things ups around here now and then.

This book:

...was the springboard for our idea. I found this at Chapters, and it definitely is a keeper. It's a wonderful resource, filled with maps and road trip ideas just around rural Alberta.

Now, having said that, we went a bit farther, by trying to list local places we can explore for free. Wow! Who knew that Calgary had so many wonderful hidden gems to explore? Check out this website for ideas in Calgary   Calgary Parks , if day trips aren't your thing.

Another challenge for the kids was to think of things to do right at home. They keep adding to this list daily; I just hope we have enough time to fulfill everything on this bucket list!

I've added another Page on the side of my blog, appropriately named: Summer Bucket List. You are more than welcome to take some ideas for yourselves. You can even join us on some of our future endeavors. If any of you, have any other ideas, suggestions, or just want to share what you're doing this summer, drop us a comment, and I'll add it to our list. You can pay it forward to someone else with your summer ideas.
Meanwhile, Happy Summer to everyone, and I'll keep you posted to let you know how our adventures are going.
