Serendipitous Wonder ( My Longest Post Ever Edition)

When Dave asked us Saturday, if we would want to join him on a short trip to see his latest well, I balked at the idea. Really? Like I didn't have anything better to do on a Sunday? Turns out I didn't, so I sucked it up, and realized I should just seize the moment. What did I have to lose? I had a 50/50 chance of enjoying myself. After a lengthy morning gong show with getting ready, we packed up the kids and dog in the truck Sunday morning, and headed South.

We headed South to the Okotoks overpass, East on the 552, then South towards Vulcan. We took the "scenic route" instead of the 4 lane. What gorgeous scenery! The one thing I noticed, was how green everything was, because of ALL the rain we had. Beautiful, if you're like me "oohhing and awwwing" at the scenery, but bad for the farmers, who are late with seeding this year.
We passed through Mossleigh, and stopped in Vulcan for lunch. We had a picnic lunch under the shadow of the U.S.S. Enterprise Spaceship. ( I'm not a big Trekkie fan...but now I can say "Been there done that"...now if it was Star Wars....) Anyways...sorry for the digression.  There was quite the crowd in Vulcan, because of "Spock Days". Yes you read right. We felt right out of place without our pointy ears ( written with a bit of sarcasm).  We beamed back to the truck ( sorry I couldn't resist) and drove past Kircaldy, and Champion. Those places looked like time had stood still for them, and the rest of the world moved at the speed of light: Rural Alberta...I truly love it! ( written with true awe and admiration). We ended up just south of Carmangay, to where Dave's next big prospect was.

Thinking that I'd pull out the books, drawing and IPhone for the kids and myself, Dave announced after a brief meeting at the well, we were just heading over to the farmer's place up the road ( Dave's drilling on his land) for a meet and greet.

Well honestly, I was more than pleasantly surprised! The kids were befriended by 2 little girls (6 and 8), and I sat and chatted with the farmer's wife, You'd think we're were long lost friends. The kids had a blast running around, playing, exploring, cuddling new kittens in the barn, and eating Creamsicles. I had a great chat with the farmer's wife ( whose name has completely escaped me...sheesh). Dave and the farmer had a beer over by the Quonset hut "talkin' business".
We ended up staying much later than we anticipated, but it was wonderful! The kids didn't want to leave. Next time Dave heads down that way to check up on his well, we're all expected to come for a visit.

It's funny how things work out for us. Serendipity plays a huge role when we have no expectations. It's those little pleasant surprises in our life that makes us carry on, and seek what is around the bend. Maybe everyday is like that, but sometimes, when we get caught up in the busyness of "life" we forget to look for the little things, which end up being the best things.
...Just a thought :)
