The last 2 weeks, have been crazy busy around here. Why is it, when the weather FINALLY starts to get nice here in Alberta, that's when it's time to run around like headless chickens attending year end recitals, festivals, and pushing to the finish line with school? Go figure!
The boys and Sophie performed in the APTA music festival, and the final concert was this past Saturday. What an array of wonderful performers. I'm so glad, that this festival is around, and that we are so lucky to have a piano teacher, who prefers a workshop based festival. The kids get to shine, and they learn so much from adjudicators who genuinely take interest in them, and who truly love to share their knowledge about piano.
Last Thursday, we had our school talent show in Okotoks. What a fun time, and what great talent; everything from piano, gymnastics, cello, violin...you name it, I think we had it! Even some of the teachers performed. That was great to see. I think many kids don't realize that teachers are more than "the voice" behind their online classes. They can have fun too!
Friday, Devin wrote his Grade1 piano theory exam. It went well, and now that's out of the way too.
Saturday, we attended Sophie and Emilie's Irish Dance recital. They've come a long way, and it was fun to watch them go out there and perform. I think this is a keeper for us. It's recreational...non-competitive...and as Sophie says "It's not ballet"
Sunday night, we had our final Westside Children's concert. I say
final, because we won't be attending next year. We had a great run with this wonderful choir ( 5 years to be exact), and I highly recommend it to anyone. Nevertheless, we need to draw the line somewhere when it comes to activities....and let's be honest...driving down to Scarboro in the middle of winter can take up to 1 1/2 hours. I think 5 years of winter driving has finally gotten to me. I find too, that the children's interests are changing, and as much as they love music, we've come to a HUGE brick wall with singing. The boys and the girls would much rather play piano, and guitar. That's OK by me and Dave.
Christian just wrote his 1st set of provincial exams in English today. They went well. he was happy getting out of there, and was confident that he wrote a good set of stories. We're not done yet though with these exams. Christian will write his math and 2nd set of English exams in June.
As you can tell, it's been just a little crazy busy around here. I'm hoping that the ride will slow down just a bit, but we have our last push until June 2nd. ( That's our last facilitator visit) After that, hopefully, we'll have a little more time...just to breath. But until then, I'm trying to "Keep calm and carry on". ( That's my new motto...just for a little while...I might switch it to " Crying? There's no crying allowed in motherhood! "
So if you're as exhausted as I am, after just reading this update, here are a few pics from our different events. Hopefully, you can sit back, relax and enjoy :) I apologize for some of the fuzzy pics...but I think you can get the idea.
