We were treated to a table of snacks, juice, (wine for the moms) and a visit by local author Jan Markley. She is the author of a new mystery series " Dead Frog on the Porch", and "Dead Bird Through the Cat Door".
Some of you I know are thinking: "What the...????"
Nevertheless, the books are quite entertaining, with not alot of the "gore" which the titles might seem to...suggest? Just good 'ol mystery books for kids.
Ms. Markley, is a delightful, and entertaining person. She read from her books, and answered questions from the book club kids, about her writing process, and the writing process in general. ( You just know that I was in heaven). She gave some wonderful insights to many young budding writers last night. I'm really hoping that my 3 walked away with more than full belly's from the snack table.

While on the topic of literature, the Sophie and the boys picked up their summer reading from Monkeyshines as well. This year, their comments will be posted on Monkeyshines Facebook page. ( and no...we are still Facebook free, and just because their book reviews will be on Facebook, I still refuse to join)...But if anyone else is on Facebook...you can check out their reviews later this summer!
