For Lent, I picked up this book: Amon's Adventure. It's a historical fiction set during the time of Jesus and the 1st Easter. It follows the adventures of one boy, Amon, as he tries to solve the mystery of who framed his father. This is definitely a book that has become a family favorite this year.
There are enough chapters to read one every day/night over 40 days, but the kids are so engrossed by the story line, that we end up reading aloud 2 or 3 chapters a night. Christian is already wondering if there will be a sequel to this book. There are 3 prequels to this story, which are great readings during Advent. ( Jotham's Journey, Bartholomew's Passage, Tabitha's Travels) The only one I have seen at Calgary Home Education Resources (CHER) is Jotham's Journey, and it will definitely be on my shopping list next time.
