Devin attended another Discovering Science class at St. Mary's University last night. I can't stop speaking of how wonderful these classes are for junior high kids! For $20/class...works out to $100/semester, this has definitely been our best bang for our buck, for schoolish activities.
This time, the topic was Hydraulics. Today, he showed off 2 of his experiments from last night. The first, was a Hero's Fountain. Taking the principal of siphons, he used 3 pop bottles, flexible tubing and pipets to explain to the rest of us non sciency types (mom to be exact), why hydraulics is important to understand the movement of fluids in pipes, dam design, pumps irrigation, etc.
His second experiment, the Tantalus Cup, apparently was just done..."because it was cool".
Here are a few pictures from today. If you look closely, you can see a stream of water, spurting up out of Devin's "Hero Fountain".
